  • If you love to explore natural settings in your free time, South Yorkshire could be your perfect haven. Part of the picturesque Peak District lies within the county, giving you a stunning place to go hiking among breathtaking scenery. From the Trans Pennine Trail to Rother Valley Country Park and the Linacre Reservoirs, Langold Country Park is another great spot with its lake and kids’ splash park.

Sheffield is a hub of culture and activity both day and night, and home to attractions like the Millennium Gallery, Sheffield Botanical Gardens, Graves Art Gallery and Kelham Island Museum. Sheffield Cable Waterski and Aqua Park is on the outskirts of the city, while other highlights across the county include Brodsworth Hall and Gardens, Conisbrough Castle, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Magna Science Adventure Centre.
  • There are lots of excellent schools the length and breadth of South Yorkshire, including a large number of primaries in the Sheffield area rated as outstanding by Ofsted. This includes Porter Croft CofE, Nether Edge Primary and St Catherine’s Catholic Primary, while Herringthorpe’s junior and infant schools and Barnsley’s St Mary’s CofE are also in the education board’s top band.

Children in Barnsley can continue their education at Horizon Community College and the outstanding Barnsley College, while Rotherham’s St Bernard’s Catholic High School also gets top marks from Ofsted. The same goes for Tapton School and Notre Dame High School, which are both on the outskirts of Sheffield.
  • There’s a strong selection of transport links across the county, with lots of bus and train routes for getting to other parts of Yorkshire and beyond. Trains from Sheffield to Leeds, for example, take less than 40 minutes, while it’s two hours down to London. The M1 motorway is convenient if you have car, while the M18 and A1(M) also pass through South Yorkshire, as well as the M180 for a short time.
