Living in Kent

There are many different ways you can look forward to living your life in Kent, whether you want to be as close to London as possible, surrounded by open countryside or on the coast with a short hop over to France on the ferry. Whatever suits you and your family the most, don’t miss initiatives such as our Part Exchange and Home Reach scheme.

Things to see and do in Kent

Kent is nicknamed the ‘Garden of England’ thanks to spectacular natural scenery such as the sprawling Kent Downs. The White Cliffs of Dover are one of the UK’s most iconic natural sights, and not far from Lower Leas Coastal Park with its pretty gardens, adventure play area and amphitheatre. Brockhill Country Park is also nearby, while Dungeness National Nature Reserve in a stunning conservation area in the south east corner of the county.

Tonbridge Castle and the neighbouring Haysden Country Park are well worth a visit, along with Oare Gunpowder Works Country Park and Oare Marshes Nature Reserve close to Faversham. From Leybourne Lakes Country Park and Trosley Country Park to Lullingstone Country Park, Leeds Castle and Canterbury Cathedral, you’ll never be stuck for things to see and do in Kent.

Education

The Gateway Primary Academy in Dartford has been rated as one of the best primary schools in Kent, while Ramsgate’s Chilton Primary and Tonbridge’s St Margaret Clitherow Catholic Primary are also right up there. Children in Faversham can start their education at St Mary of Charity CofE or Ethelbert Road Primary, before continuing on to Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, with all three schools ranked as outstanding by Ofsted.

Other top secondary schools in Kent include Invicta Grammar in Maidstone and Highworth Grammar in Ashford. Dartford and Rochester also have top-performing grammar schools, while Weald of Kent Grammar School in Tonbridge is another excellent option.

Transport links in Kent

In addition to an array of bus and rail routes which make their way across Kent, the county also has a network of cycle routes, community transport schemes and journey share initiatives. You can also catch a ferry from Dover to Calais in France in just 90 minutes, while it’s only 35 minutes on the Eurotunnel from Folkestone to Calais.

If you drive, you can make use of the M25 motorway in the west, while the M20 strikes east from the London circular towards the coast. The M2 also runs between Faversham and Rochester in the north of the county.

The Kent property market

Kent’s wonderful location within the South East means property prices are far higher than the UK average. There’s still plenty of value to be found though, with affordable 3 and 4 bedroom new houses available along Brogdale Road on the outskirts of Faversham

Or perhaps you’d rather be closer to London in Tonbridge, where you can find expertly-designed 3, 4 and 5 bedroom houses for sale surrounded by charming open spaces. And make sure you keep in mind that if you buy a new home with us, you could save yourself a lot of money through offers such as our popular Movemaker scheme.
