Transport links

Peterborough Station offers direct trains to London, with journeys to King’s Cross St Pancras lasting around 50 minutes. The East Coast line continues north, reaching Leeds in one hour 40 minutes.

Cities to the east are best reached by road, including Birmingham with travel taking around two hours along the M69 and M6. Northampton is one hour south west, and Cambridge is 45 minutes via the A14. The A1 (M) connects Peterborough to the north.

The city’s bus service centres on Queensgate Bus Station, with both local and national departures.

The closest airport is London Stansted, approximately one hour and 5 minutes away via the M11.

Places of interest

There are over 20 nature reserves in the Peterborough area, including Ferry Meadows Country Park and boat trips at Nene Park. Flag Fen is a Bronze Age site dating back 3500 years.

Peterborough Cathedral, with its striking gothic facade, is one of the most recognisable sites in the city centre. Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery is a popular cultural day out, while Key Theatre and Cresset Theatre show the city’s artistic side.

Regular events in the city include Peterborough Beer Festival, The Great British Campout, Peterborough Arts Festival, Peterborough Classic & Vintage Car Show and the Italian Festival.

Educational facilities

Peterborough has two universities, Anglia Ruskin and University Centre Peterborough. The University of Cambridge is just 40 minutes away by car, and the University of Leicester can be reached within an hour.
