Situated just two miles east of York, Osbaldwick is a small village built along a tributary of the River Foss, Osbaldwick Beck. With a population nearing 3,000, Osbaldwick is so close to York that many class it as a suburb.

As a small village, Osbaldwick does not have its own railway station but there are good train links in neighbouring York. York Station lies on the East Coast Main Line, and has good access to major cities including London, Leeds and Manchester. King’s Cross St Pancras can be reached within 2 hours and 15 minutes by train.
Osbaldwick lies within the York ring road. York city centre is just a 10-15 minute car journey from Osbaldwick, or 15 minutes by bus. Leeds is a 40 minute drive away along the A64, while Scarborough can be reached within an hour along the A64 in the opposite direction. Manchester takes one hour 25 minutes by car, again travelling along the A64 followed by the M62. Sheffield is one hour 10 minutes by road.
The village lies on the Sustrans national cycle route 66, and is served by two bus routes.

Founded in 1963 and with a student population of more than 15,000, the University of York is ranked within the top 20 UK institutions for higher education. It has one of the highest proportions of 4 star research activity in the UK.
