Things to see and do in East Yorkshire

Variety is the spice of life in East Yorkshire. From days at the seaside to historical attractions and cultural offerings in biggest city Hull, the region has it all. Whether you’re visiting museums and galleries, relaxing on the beach or exploring vast open spaces, there truly is something for everyone.

Nature lovers will love a trip to the Bempton Cliffs, an RSPB site where the dramatic scenery combines with abundant wildlife for a truly special experience. See the ancient Rudston Monolith, gaze out to sea from Flamborough Head and play in the sand at Hornsea Beach. Or, if you love water sports, get out on the Humber at Welton Waters Adventure Centre.

There are lots of areas around East Yorkshire that boast excellent schools. Hull and its surroundings are home to many schools rated as outstanding by Ofsted, including Bacon Garth Primary and Westfield Primary in Cottingham and Swanland Primary School near Hessle. The Sullivan Centre and Kelvin Hall School cater for older children in those areas, and like St Mary’s College just north of Hull, are also outstanding.

Transport links in East Yorkshire

There are plenty of public transport links across East Yorkshire, with Hull the epicentre of services when it comes to buses and trains. Rail journeys to Leeds take less than an hour, while it’s a little longer to places like Sheffield and York. The M62 is the only motorway which passes through East Yorkshire, starting just outside Hull and heading west towards Leeds, Manchester, and finally Liverpool on England’s opposite coast.

The East Yorkshire property market

As a large county, there are properties in East Yorkshire to suit all manner of styles and budgets. The region has seen plenty of new developments spring up in recent years, with some beautifully-designed houses available in the Cottingham and Hessle areas, as well as in Stamford Bridge in the county’s north-west corner near York. We can help you buy your dream home in this area, and we can also advise you about the Help to Buy scheme in Yorkshire and the Humber when you get in touch.
