  • Deal was recorded as a village in the Domesday Book, and over the centuries the settlement became a significant port town, with castles built in the area for protection from attacks by foreign ships. Deal Castle was built by King Henry VIII, and has a floor plan in the shape of a rose.

    Over the centuries Deal became one of the busiest ports in the country, and in the mid-1800s the Royal Marines established a depot in the town. Today Deal is mainly a seaside resort popular with holidaymakers and weekend breakers from London and beyond.

  • Located close to the port of Dover, Deal is within commuting distance of a number of major employers including P&O Ferries, Dover Harbour Board, DFDS Seaways and Burgess Marine.   • Deal is well-connected by road, rail and ferry. Dover is only a 20 minute drive or 15-minute train journey away, while the journey to Ramsgate takes 35 minutes by car or just 20 minutes by train. Canterbury is a 40 minute drive from Deal via the A257, and the journey to London takes around two hours by car depending on traffic or just one hour 25 minutes by train to St Pancras International.

    If you’re going on holiday, the nearest major airport is London Gatwick, one hour 35 minutes away by car via the M20.
