A quick history

Although Milton Keynes is a ‘new town’, archaeologists have found evidence of settlements in the local area dating back to the Neolithic period. Plans were set out for Milton Keynes in the 1960s, with the aim to create a new city with a quarter of a million residents. The plans included a gridded road system, a separate network of cycle routes throughout the town, and a guideline for no buildings to be taller than tree height. The height restriction was later lifted to allow the construction of bigger landmark buildings.
