New Homes in St. Albans

Located in Hertfordshire, St. Albans is a city with a rich heritage and a vibrant atmosphere. Just 20-minutes outside of London it’s an ideal place for commuters to base themselves and their families. Whether taking in the historic Roman remains or enjoying the fantastic local architecture, stretching your legs in one of the many lush green open spaces, or relaxing with some retail therapy there’s something for the whole family to enjoy close to your new home in St. Albans.

Things to see and do

If spending time outside and enjoying the best of nature is high on your list of priorities, St. Albans has a lot to offer. There’s the Royal National Rose Society Gardens, Aylett Nurseries, Verulamium Park, Wheathampstead Heritage Trail and the fantastic Heartwood Forest, England’s largest new native forest. Heartwood is home to 858 acres of woodland, a community orchard, wildflower meadows, and a network of footpaths, cycle paths and bridleways.

The city is home to St. Albans Cathedral, the oldest site of continuous Christian worship in the UK, as well as several other historical attractions including Sopwell Priory, Gorhambury House and Old Gorhambury House, the Clock Tower and Shaw’s Corner. You can also learn about the history of St. Albans at Verulamium Museum.

Residents of St. Albans enjoy a range of independent and boutique shopping options amongst the regular high-street shops, a great food and drink scene and a traditional street market. The market is open twice weekly including the Wednesday food market, and is also host to the monthly Farmers Market and the occasional Continental Market.

Education

If you’re moving to a new home in St. Albans with school-age children, you’ll be pleased to know there is a great choice when it comes to primary and secondary schools rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. These include Loreto College, St Alban and St Stephen Roman Catholic Infant and Nursery School, Saint Alban and St Stephen Catholic Junior School, Batchwood School, Fleetville Junior School, Cunningham Hill Junior and Infant Schools, St Albans Girls’ School, Oakwood Primary School, Beaumont School, and Sandringham School.

If you or your children are planning on studying for a degree, University Campus St. Albans (UCSA) – a venture in place with the University of Hertfordshire – is in St. Albans offering part-time degrees. The main campus for the University of Hertfordshire is just a 10-minute drive, whilst the proximity to London ensures a commutable distance to all the capital’s universities and higher education establishments.

Getting to St. Albans

St. Albans is home to two railway stations, St. Albans City and St. Albans Abbey. The former is the main station for the city with direct services to London St. Pancras and London Blackfriars, with journey times of between 20 and 30 minutes, ideal for commuters heading to different areas in the capital for work. If you’re travelling north on the train, you’ll be in Luton in 15 minutes.
