New homes in Huntingdon

Welcome to Huntingdon

Huntingdon is a historic market town located in rural Cambridgeshire, with transport links to Cambridge, Peterborough and London. Whether you’re looking for a vibrant local community, family friendly attractions or good commuter routes, a new home in Huntingdon could be the right choice for you.

A quick history

Dating back to Anglo Saxon times and chartered in 1205, Huntingdon grew and prospered thanks to its market, along with its location as a crossing point on the Great River Ouse. Oliver Cromwell was born in Huntingdon in 1599, while Samuel Pepys attended school in the town. Today, Huntingdon is a thriving commuter town, combining good transport links and family attractions with a firm sense of history.

Business and industry

Huntingdon is home to a number of big businesses including Hilton Food Group and Vindis Group, while Marshall Group, Arm Holdings and ProCam Europe are based in Cambridge, G’s Group in Ely, Del Monte and McCains in Peterborough and Napp Pharmaceuticals in Milton. Local universities are also major employers, including the University of Cambridge, Anglia Ruskin University and University Centre Peterborough.

Things to do in the area

Huntingdon has a strong sense of history, with a walk along the Historic Town Trail being the perfect way to discover centuries-old sights, finishing up at the National Trust’s Houghton Mill. Some of the most notable historic places of interest in the town include the Thinking Soldier war memorial, All Saints Church, and the Cromwell Museum which explores Oliver Cromwell’s life, ‘warts and everything’.

If you enjoy shopping, Huntingdon has a pedestrianised town centre where you can browse both high street and locally-owned shops, and buy fresh produce at the market. The riverside park in the town is a lovely place to take a relaxing walk, while Portholme Meadow just outside the town is home to a wide range of wildlife.

For sports fans, you can have a flutter at Huntingdon Racecourse, try out watersports at Grafham Water Centre and Purvis Marine, or enjoy a round of golf at Brampton Park Golf Club. If you’re moving to the area with children, there are lots of great family-friendly attractions nearby including Hinchingbrooke Country Park, Wimpole Home Farm and Thurleigh Farm Centre.

Travel and commuting

If you’re commuting to Cambridge, Peterborough or other nearby towns, Huntingdon has good transport links ensuring your journey is quick and hassle-free. There is a local train station, and the A1(M), A12 and M11 are all close by.

Cambridge is 30 minutes away from the town by car, while Peterborough can be reached in just 15 minutes by train or 30 minutes by car. Northampton can be reached in one hour, Leicester in one hour 15 minutes and Birmingham in one hour 30 minutes.
