Things to see and do in Bedford

Natural spaces are in plentiful supply in and around Bedford, thanks in part to the River Great Ouse which flows through the heart of town. You can follow the river for some wonderful walks, while spots like Russell Park make great use of their riverside setting. Bedford Park is also located close to the centre of town, along with Priory Country Park.

Little Paxton Pits, meanwhile, is a charming nature reserve set over almost 80 hectares just a 20-minute drive from town. Back on your doorstep you can explore the history and culture of the local area by visiting Bedford Castle, the Stockwood Discovery Centre and the Higgins Art Gallery and Museum, while the Shire Hall, Panacea Museum and John Bunyan Museum are all must-sees in the centre of town.

Bedford Girls’ School on the south bank of the river close to the town centre is one of the very best schools in the local area. Bedford Modern School just north west of the centre is highly rated too, as well as De Parys Avenue’s Bedford School. If you’re looking for primaries, Cauldwell School on Edward Road and Great Denham Primary are among the top central options, while areas like Great Denham and Wixams also have strong local schools.

Carbon-free travel in Bedford is easily possible thanks to a network of cycling routes, while there are also plenty of bus routes and two train stations you can get around with. You can even find huge variety within a matter of streets, with our Willow Grove development in Wixams revealing everything from modern 2 bedroom apartments to spacious 5 bed family detached homes.

You can find 1 bed apartments and bigger houses off Danegeld Avenue in Great Denham, while Marston Moretaine to the south west of town is the place to be if you want to be on the edge of open countryside yet still enjoy great access to the M1.
