Purbrook is a traditional Hampshire village with an active community, situated just north of Portsmouth. Bordering the town of Waterlooville, Purbrook has a population of more than 9,000.

The village is within easy commuting distance to Portsmouth or nearby Southampton. Purbrook benefits from both the beautiful Hampshire countryside and the diverse facilities of its neighbouring coastal cities.

Transport links

While Purbrook itself has no railway station, neighbouring Bedhampton and Havant - just three miles west of the village - have good train links to London, Brighton and Portsmouth Harbour. A train journey from Havant to London takes one hour 40 minutes with South West Trains.

The centre of Waterlooville can be reached within eight minutes by car or 10 minutes by foot and bus. A 10 minute car journey will take you to Portsmouth, while a 30 minute drive east will get you to Southampton via the M27. Brighton is one hour 10 minutes away, and London can be reached within one hour 30 minutes by car along the A3.

Places of interest

Situated on the edge of Portsmouth and within easy reach of the Hampshire countryside, Purbrook has plenty to offer its residents. Staunton Country Park has 1,000 acres of Regency parkland to explore, while The Forest of Bere - owned by the Forestry Commission - offers plenty of opportunity for cycling and walking in open space and woodland.

In Portsmouth itself, there are a number of cultural sites that embrace the city’s maritime heritage. These include Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, Portsmouth City Museum, Royal Marines Museum, and Explosion! The Museum of Naval Firepower.

On the contemporary end of the spectrum, Spinnaker Tower signifies the modernisation of Portsmouth Harbour.

For sports fans, Southampton football club has Premier League action at St. Mary’s Stadium, while Portsmouth FC play League Two football at Fratton Park.

Educational facilities

There are three universities in close proximity to Purbrook: the University of Portsmouth, the University of Southampton and the University of Chichester.

Local amenities

Purbrook itself has good amenities, especially for families. Purbrook Heath has a children’s play area, tennis courts and cricket pitches, and Fort Purbrook has its own activity centre including rock climbing and archery.

Nearby, Havant Leisure Centre has a splash pool and diving pit, while Solent Arena in Fareham offers a multi-sport rink for roller derby, inline skating and floorball.
