A quick history

The most recognisable historic sight in South Queensferry is the Forth Bridge, a railway bridge which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its iconic engineering, while Queensferry Museum explores the history of the area. Inchcolm is also nearby, where you’ll find an abbey dating back to the 12th century along with a number of defences from the Second World War.

Business and industry

Located within reach of Edinburgh, it’s easy to commute to the Scottish capital from South Queensferry, where employers include the NHS, the City of Edinburgh Council and the University of Edinburgh. Other big businesses include the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, Lloyds Banking Group and Standard Life.

Things to do in the area

South Queensferry is home to a number of shops and cafes, while Queensferry Museum has exhibits on the town through the ages. There are lots of historic sites close to the town including Dundas Castle, Hopetoun House and Dalmeny House, while Inchcolm Abbey is also nearby.

For families moving to the area, the kids will enjoy visiting Deep Sea World aquarium, riding their bikes along the John Muir Way, and exploring Almondell and Calderwood Country Park. Edinburgh is only a short train journey away, where you can visit Edinburgh Castle, take the little ones to Edinburgh Zoo or enjoy some retail therapy at the shops of Princes Street.

Travel and commuting

South Queensferry is well-connected by road, while the nearest train station is nearby in Dalmeny, just a 15 minute walk from the town centre. If you’re travelling to Edinburgh, you can get to the city centre in 20 minutes by train or 25 minutes by car, while the drive to Falkirk takes around 30 minutes. If you’re going to Glasgow, the car journey takes 50 minutes depending on traffic. 

When you want to jet off on holiday, the journey to Edinburgh  holiday, Edinburgh Airport is very close to South Queensferry, with the drive taking just 20 minutes depending on traffic.
