A quick history
There is evidence of neolithic settlements in the local area, but by the Middle Ages Littleborough was still only a small hamlet alongside two major transport routes of the time. The village began to grow as the cotton industry became more important in the region, along with the introduction of coal mining. Although the industries declined in the 20th century, Littleborough is now a popular commuter town in Greater Manchester.
Business and industry
Today, most residents of Littleborough commute to neighbouring towns and cities for work. In Manchester, employers include the city’s many universities, Manchester City Council, the Manchester Evening News and the BBC, along with many other smaller, rapidly growing businesses across sectors including media, insurance and finance.
