Rochdale is a market town located north east of Manchester in the South Pennine foothills. With a population of around 90,000, new houses in Rochdale provide residents with an easy commute into Manchester, as well as neighbouring towns Bolton and Huddersfield.

Places of interest

Rochdale has a number of impressive buildings, most notably the Town Hall which is a great example of Gothic Revival Architecture.

The town is not far from lovely parkland and countryside - including Tandle Hill Country Park, Daisy Nook Country Park and Heaton Park, which hosts the annual Parklife music festival. The Peak District National Park is just a short journey away.

Spotland Stadium hosts Rochdale AFC, the town’s League One football team. Rugby League is represented by the Rochdale Hornets, also at Spotland Stadium.

There are a number of golf courses in the areas surrounding Rochdale, including Rochdale Golf Club and Marland Golf Course.

Educational facilities

At primary level, schools rated Outstanding by Ofsted include St. Michael’s Church of England Primary School, Caldershaw Primary School and Whittaker Moss Primary School. The nearest Outstanding secondary school is Hollingworth Academy.

Rochdale is also close to Manchester’s many universities, including Manchester Metropolitan, the University of Manchester and the University of Salford. 

Transport links

Rochdale is in Greater Manchester, around 10 miles from the city centre. It is served by the Metrolink, a light rail system that offers easy access into the city centre and further south to Cheshire. A journey from Rochdale to Manchester Victoria, using the Metrolink, takes 45 minutes.

Rochdale Railway Station is a mile south of the town centre and has good links to Manchester, Leeds, Bradford and Halifax. Trains into Manchester take around 20 minutes, which is a better way to get into the city than car, which can take anywhere between 30 and 50 minutes depending on traffic.

The M62 is the nearest motorway, reached via the A627(M). A journey to Liverpool takes around one hour by car via the M62, and Leeds is 40 – 50 minutes along the M62 in the opposite easterly direction. Sheffield is an hour and 30 minutes away by car or train.

Rochdale has frequent bus links into Manchester. The nearest airport is Manchester Airport to the south of the city, taking half an hour by car and just over an hour by public transport to reach.
