A quick history

Morpeth dates back to the 7th century when the settlement got its name from the Old English language, although artefacts have been discovered in the local area dating back to Neolithic times. Newminster Abbey was built in the 12th century, and a market charter was granted shortly afterwards. By the 19th century, Morpeth was known for its cattle market and later, during the Second World War,
the RAF had a base and training school nearby.
