Colchester lies along the A12, which runs north towards Ipswich and then on to seaside towns Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth. In the opposite direction are Chelmsford and London, with the capital around and hour and 15 minutes away in good traffic. It’s quicker to catch the train into London, with some services to Liverpool Street taking just over 50 minutes. It’s half that to Chelmsford on the train, and even quicker still to get to Ipswich.
