A quick history

Originally known as Slepe in the Domesday Book, St Ives was eventually renamed after the body of Saint Ivo was found buried in the area. It quickly became an important market town, and by the 18th century St Ives was also a centre of trade thanks to its position on the River Great Ouse. Today St Ives is a popular commuter town with a thriving town centre.

St Ives is well-connected by road. Huntingdon is a 10 minute drive away, while the journey to Cambridge takes under 30 minutes. From the town you can get to Peterborough in 35 minutes, Bury St Edmunds in 50 minutes, and Northampton in one hour. There is also a guided busway, connecting the town to Cambridge Science Park.

If you’re commuting to London, you can get to the capital in one hour 40 minutes by car or just one hour by train from Huntingdon station. When it’s time for a well-earned holiday, Cambridge Airport is less than 30 minutes away, while London Stansted can be reached in 50 minutes.
