A quick history
East Leake was mentioned in the 11th century Domesday Book, but historians believe settlements in the local area date back to prehistoric times. A number of Roman artefacts have been discovered in and around the town, but East Leake didn’t become a thriving village until Anglo-Saxon times.
In the medieval era, East Leake was mainly populated by farms. Over the centuries as farming technology advanced, the area became more wealthy, while there was also a textile industry growing along the brook. When the railway line joined the village with its larger neighbours including Nottingham and Leicester, East Leake became more and more popular with commuters.

The main employer in East Leake is British Gypsum, a manufacturing company whose headquarters are located in the village, while big businesses within commuting distance include Next in Enderby, Caterpillar UK in Desford, Crown Crest in Leicester and 3M Health Care in Loughborough.

East Leake is a large village that’s home to a number of small shops, while other attractions include the Great Central Railway heritage line and Rushcliffe Golf Club.
