Whiteley is a village with a population of 6,000 people situated north west of Portsmouth and south east of Southampton. Sitting on the border of Fareham and Winchester, the village has good transport links and access to countryside.

Places of interest

Whiteley is close to a number of country parks and nature reserves, including Swanwick Lakes, the Royal Victoria Country Park, the Forest of Bere and Itchen Valley Country Park - offering plenty of options for walking, cycling and exploring. Being close to the coast, there are a number of beaches to choose from including Hayling Island Beach, Seagrove Bay and West Wittering Beach.

Whiteley itself is centred on Whiteley Shopping Centre, which has a good range of high street shops and well-known restaurants to choose from. The village is also home to Rock Up, a climbing and play centre for children and adults with 26 climbs reaching in excess of 25 feet.

In neighbouring Swanwick, you’ll find Bursledon Brickworks Industrial Museum with steam engine exhibits and hands-on activities. Manor Farm Country Park is also nearby, a working farm taking you through 100 years of farming history.

Football fans can watch Southampton FC at St. Mary’s Stadium and Portsmouth FC at Fratton Park. Hampshire County Cricket Club play at the Ageas Bowl in West End, just a short drive away. There is also plenty of golf on offer, with Skylark Golf and Country Club next door to the village, and Wickham Park Golf Course to the north east.

Educational facilities

Whiteley Primary School has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted. For higher education, Whiteley is within easy reach of the universities in Southampton and Portsmouth, including the University of Southampton.

Transport links

Whiteley is located close to junction 9 of the M27, giving easy access to Southampton in 20 minutes, and Portsmouth in 15 minutes. The nearest train station is Swanwick Station, which is accessible by bus in 15 minutes or car in 10 minutes. Combined bus and train links to Southampton take 30 minutes, or 40 minutes to Portsmouth.

A journey to London from Whiteley takes one hour 50 minutes by car, or two hours by bus and train. For travel further afield, Southampton Airport is close by.
