The South West house pricing guide

Stretching for more than 9,000 square miles, the South West is a large and varied corner of the country. As such, there’s a diverse housing market across the region, with areas and properties to suit all different tastes and budgets. Overall, the South West is largely more affordable than over in the South East, due to the latter’s proximity to London. Here we take a closer look at South West house prices, pointing out some of the best and most popular areas to live within this picturesque region.

Bristol

There may be plenty of attractive smaller cities in the South West, such as Salisbury and Truro, but Bristol is the region’s true powerhouse. A vibrant, exciting place to call home, Bristol has a rich history as a prosperous maritime city. This continues to the modern day, with Bristol boasting a strong property market and some of the most encouraging house prices South West cities have to offer if you want to invest. The Yate area to the north-east of the city centre is a highly desirable place to live, where you can find a lovely selection of 3 and 4 bedroom homes on our Ladden Garden Village development.

Plymouth

Another port city with a rich heritage, Plymouth lies in the south-west corner of Devon close to the border with Cornwall. House prices in Plymouth have historically been resilient, marking this out as a great place to buy a new home both for now and long into the future. You can do exactly that when you choose one of the 2, 3 or 4 bed homes on our new Treledan development, which is just across the River Tamar on the edge of the picturesque town of Saltash.

Bournemouth

Around 120 miles east along the coast, this is another attractive coastal town which truly comes alive on any sunny day, of which there are more in this corner of the country than most parts of the UK. The more easterly location contributes to the area’s strong property market, with house prices in South West hotspot Bournemouth showing plenty of resilience. This is a popular place to buy a new home, and our superb Canford Paddock and Quarter Jack Park developments on the outskirts of town offer fast access to all Bournemouth’s amenities as well as to beautiful South West countryside.

Taunton

Around 30 miles north-east of Exeter, Taunton is a pleasant Somerset town packed with history. There’s plenty to do in the heart of the area, while beauty spots like the Quantock Hills are close by for when you want to enjoy a moment’s peace. House prices are strong in this area, helped by brilliant new build developments such as our Nerrols Grange and Moorland Gate sites not far from the town centre, where you’ll find a selection of modern 3 or 4 bed homes.

Barnstaple

Sitting on the banks of the River Taw just inland from the Bristol Channel, Barnstaple has a fantastic location close to the beautiful Devon coastline. This is a wonderful place to live if you want to enjoy a peaceful way of life surrounded by open natural landscapes. It’s also a wonderful place to buy a home, with strong yet relatively affordable house prices. If that sounds ideal, don’t miss new homes at our Raleigh Holt or Tarka Ridge developments.
