A lively market town found at the edge of the North York Moors National Park, Pickering is a great place to live with plenty to see and do. Transport links

Pickering is situated on the A170 which connects Thirsk to Scarborough. The latter seaside town can be reached in just over 30 minutes. York is a 40 minute drive from Pickering, and Leeds is just over one hour away by car.

Junction 50 of the A1 (M), the North East’s main thoroughfare, can be reached within a one hour drive, and the A64 is just seven miles away.

The town is served by a good public bus service offering regular routes to neighbouring towns, Scarborough, York and Leeds. The nearest railway station is eight miles away at Malton which links to York in 25 minutes on a non-stop service. A train journey from Malton to London King’s Cross St Pancras takes around two hours 35 minutes.

Pickering’s closest airports are Durham Tees Valley International and Leeds Bradford Airport.

Situated just south of the North York Moors and a short drive from the coast, Pickering is a convenient location for enjoying the Great British countryside and seaside. Nearby York offers shopping, culture and history in one of Europe’s most beautiful cities.

In Pickering itself, there are plenty of things to do - one of the most popular attractions being the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The line stretches from Pickering across to Whitby, taking passengers on a journey along a glacial valley in traditional wood-panelled carriages.

Pickering Castle is a Norman Motte and Bailey with views over the Ryedale countryside, and the town’s Beck Isle Museum is home to an impressive 50,000 exhibits. In the centre of Pickering town, you’ll find St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church, a 12th century building with historic murals dating back to the 1400s.

In the wider local area, Eden Camp is an award-winning living history museum in Malton, situated on a former World War II prisoner of war camp. Dalby Forest in the North York Moors is a popular location for hikers, mountain bikers and adventure seekers.
