A quick history

Bromsgrove dates back to the 9th century, and was referred to as ‘Bremesgrave’ in the Domesday Book. During the Anglo Saxon era the settlement was mainly agricultural and focused around the woodlands, but by the 13th century there was a regular market. Later, Bromsgrove became a cloth manufacturing town, and later was known for nail making. The Bromsgrove Guild of Applied Arts was famous for its craft work, and even made the gates for Buckingham Palace.

Business and industry

Employers in Bromsgrove include paint brush manufacturers L G Harris, while Worcester is home to Worcester Bosch, Yamazaki Mazak and the University of Worcester. The National Express head quarters, Jaguar and Mondelez International are in Birmingham, and Redditch is home to the Halfords head office and engineering firm GKN.

Things to do in the area

Bromsgrove has a number of high street shops and a traditional market, along with cultural attractions such as the Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings, the Norton Collection Museum and the Artrix Centre. Other places of interest nearby include Beaconwood and the Winsel, Tardebigge Locks and Sanders Park.

The Clent Hills, Lickey Hill Country Park and Pepper Wood are ideal for walks with the family, while the kids will love day trips to Dudley Zoo, West Midland Safari Park and Drayton Manor theme park.

Located within easy reach of larger towns and cities, there are lots of great attractions within driving distance or a short train journey away from Bromsgrove, including the Tudor House Museum in Worcester, the Bullring shopping mall in Birmingham and the Palace Theatre in Redditch.

Travel and commuting

If you’re looking for excellent transport links, Bromsgrove is very well connected by both road and rail, with regular trains to Birmingham, Worcester and beyond, and the M5 and M42 close by.

From Bromsgrove, the journey to Worcester takes 20 minutes by train or 30 minutes by car, while Redditch is just a 15 minute drive away. If you’re going to Birmingham, the journey by train takes 25 minutes, while the car journey takes 35 minutes depending on traffic. If you’re commuting to London or spending a few days in the capital, the train journey takes two hours 15 minutes changing once at Birmingham New Street.

If you’re going on holiday, Birmingham Airport is only 25 minutes from Bromsgrove by car. If you prefer, you can leave the car at home and take the train to Birmingham International, changing at New Street.
