Sarn, a South Wales railway village 3 miles north of the Bridgend with easy access to the M4, is a quiet yet friendly place to live.

Only a short journey from beaches and the Welsh countryside, new homes in Sarn offer residents rural living a short distance from Swansea and Cardiff.

Places of interest

Sarn is close to the country and wildlife parks. Merthyr Mawr National Nature Reserve is a stretch of sand dunes close to Sarn, with a variety of plants and animals. Parc Slip Nature Reserve, managed by the Wildlife Trust, contains 300 acres of woodland, wetland and grassland. Nearby, Afan Forest Park is a hugely popular mountain biking destination.

Bryngarw Country Park and Margam Country Park are also within reach of Sarn. Margam in particular hosts many events throughout the year, including music festivals and sporting stages.

South Wales has world-class beaches, and Sarn is close to many of them. Rest Bay and Trecco Bay are both in Porthcawl, just a 15 minute drive away. Both are family-friendly and popular with surfers. The beaches of the Gower Peninsula are just 50 minutes away by car.

Sarn is also close to Bridgend Miniature Railway and, a little further away, the South Wales Miners Museum in Neath Port Talbot, and St Fagans Museum of Welsh Life.

Sarn is close to the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet, which has a large range of retail outlets including many high-end brands. 

Educational facilities

Heronsbridge Special School near Sarn is rated ‘Excellent’ by Estyn, the Welsh education body. For higher education, Swansea and Cardiff offer some of the UK’s top universities all within a 30 minute car or train journey.

Transport links

Despite being small, Sarn has its own railway station which links to Swansea in the west and Cardiff in the east via Arriva Trains Wales services. The line runs all the way to Cheltenham Spa in two hours, stopping at a number of stations including Newport, Chepstow and Gloucester.

The village is just north of Junction 36 of the M4, which provides quick access east and west. Along the motorway, Swansea is a 30 minute journey, Cardiff is 30 minutes and Bristol a one hour drive away. London is a three hour drive away along the M4 corridor.

For international flights, Cardiff Airport is a 35 minute car journey away near Rhoose, Barry.
