As the only garden town in the South West, Taunton is one of the most picturesque locations in the West Country. Things to see and do

Taunton promises history, culture and some of the best landscapes in the country. The rich fertile soil of the area has been responsible for the town’s most famous export: cider. While the Taunton Cider Company still has its headquarters on the outskirts of town, you can view more traditional methods of production every autumn at Sheppy’s Farm. You can also enjoy a day out learning about the history of the area with visits to the Museum of Somerset, St. Mary Magdalene Church and Woodlands Castle.

If you and your family have a love for the great outdoors you can hike and walk in the surrounding countryside, as well as visit West Sedgemoor Nature Reserve, Trull Waterfall, Swell Wood Nature Reserve, Pyrland Farm, and the Willows and Wetlands. If you want a trip to remember and to experience the best way of viewing the countryside, head to Aerosaurus Balloons for a hot air balloon ride complete with Champagne.

Sports fans will be pleased to know that Taunton is home to Somerset County Cricket Club. The Garden Town status will be on show at Vivary Park, home to the annual Taunton Flower Show.
