Things to see and do

The village’s name comes from a creek on the River Tone, which runs through the village, and St Michael’s Church. Explore the inside of this medieval buildings and its 19th century organ, while the bells of the church can be seen from outside.

Walks and picnics can be enjoyed along the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal, a lovely route though the village for pleasure boats. The Somerset Levels, Quantock Hills and the Blackdown Hills are within easy reach and offer some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country.

Taunton can be reached in just 11 minutes by car. Highlights include the Museum of Somerset which features exhibitions focusing on geology, archaeology, medieval and ethnography. There are several interactive activities along with permanent and temporary collections.

Hestercombe Gardens is another of Taunton’s attractions. Here you can enjoy 300 years of garden design with its Georgian Landscape Garden, Victorian Terrace and Edwardian Formal Garden. You can also take a look around the Hestercombe Gallery, which has exhibitions of contemporary art throughout the year.

Education

There are several schools serving the area, while Exeter University is an option for those going on to higher education. Here students can choose from a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Transport links

Despite its rural location, Creech St Michael has great transport links to surrounding areas and further afield.

By road, the town is served by the M5 motorway, while the nearest train station can be found at Taunton; which is around 15 minutes away on the A3259.

This is serviced by the Paddington to Penzance main line and is operated by First Great Western. It is also served by CrossCountry trains.

Weston Super Mare can be reached by train in just 31 minutes, Exeter in 26 minutes, Bristol Parkway in 44 minutes and London Paddington in one hour 53 minutes.

The nearest airport is Exeter, which is 37 minutes away, and Bristol which is 50 minutes away. From here you can enjoy both domestic and international flights.
