New Homes in Alexandria

Welcome to Alexandria

Whether you’re visiting aquariums, exploring country parks or taking a day trip to the city, there’s no shortage of things to do and places to see close to the Scottish town of Alexandria. If you’re looking for a place to live that’s surrounded by countryside yet within easy reach of Glasgow, a new home in Alexandria could tick all the right boxes for you.

A quick history

Alexandria is historically a cotton manufacturing town, but over time the traditional industries have made way for a more modern settlement. In the 1970s, the town was redeveloped with a new-look town centre, and today Alexandria is a popular place for commuters to settle.

Business and industry

One of the biggest businesses in Alexandria at the beginning of the 20th century was car production company Argyll Motors, but today the town is home to a wide range of businesses spanning leisure, retail and tourism, including the hotelier MF Wells. Many people living in Alexandria commute to Glasgow for work, where employers include Scottish Power, Arnold Clark Automobiles, Aggreko and Edrington distillers.

Things to do in the area

If you love getting out in the great outdoors, Alexandria is close to some of Scotland’s most popular natural sights including Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, Balloch Castle Country Park and Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park.

Other local attractions include Loch Lomond Aquarium, Loch Lomond Brewery and Dumbarton Castle, while the city of Glasgow is home to the likes of Kelvingrove Art Gallery, St Enoch Shopping Centre and Glasgow Cathedral.

Sports fans can cheer on Celtic FC at Celtic Park or Rangers FC at the Ibrox Stadium, while you can enjoy a leisurely round of golf at the Vale of Leven Golf Club.

Travel and commuting

Whether you’re commuting for work or taking a trip to see family and friends, it’s good to know that Alexandria has excellent transport links by car and train. Glasgow can be reached in just 45 minutes by both road and rail, while Stirling can be reached in 50 minutes travelling by car.

Going further afield, the journey to Edinburgh takes around one hour 45 minutes if you’re driving, or around five minutes less if you take the train and change at Glasgow. When you want to take a well-earned break, you can jet off to worldwide destinations from Glasgow Airport, just 25 minutes from Alexandria by car.
