Harrietsham was first mentioned in the Domesday Book in the 11th century, although the placename has Old English origins. The local train station opened in the late 19th century, connecting the area to London and Dover by rail.

The journey from Harrietsham to Maidstone takes 15 minutes by train or 20 minutes by car, while Folkestone can be reached in 35 minutes by car.
