A quick history

Canterbury has a rich and interesting history, and is now home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to the large number of historic buildings in the city. The city walls date back to Roman times, while there’s also the 6th century St Augustine’s Abbey, a Norman castle, and Canterbury Cathedral. The city was also made famous by The Canterbury Tales, written by Chaucer in the 14th century.

Business and industry

Industry in Canterbury centres mainly around tourism, with huge numbers of visitors coming to see Canterbury Cathedral and other sights in the city. Employers in Canterbury include the University of Kent, Canterbury City Council, Motorline Holdings and Bapchild Motoring World, while P&O Ferries are based nearby in Dover and Holiday Extras in Hythe.
