Welcome to Buckingham

From traditional markets to museums and countryside, there’s lots to see and do close to the historic town of Buckingham. If you’re on the lookout for a place to live with good transport links and plenty of family-friendly attractions nearby, a new home in Buckingham could be the right choice for you.

A quick history

Archaeologists have found evidence of Roman life around Buckingham, but the town itself was founded during Anglo Saxon times around the 7th century. Over the centuries that followed, the Saxons and Danes fought over Buckingham, and the town is said to be the burial place of a Saxon saint, St Rumbold.

The settlement was mentioned in the Domesday Book, having become the county town in the 10th century. The town was given a charter in the mid 16th century, and later in the early 1700s many buildings in Buckingham were destroyed by a fire. In the 18th century, Aylesbury took over as the county town of Buckinghamshire.
