The historic market town of Doncaster can be reached in just over 20 minutes from Finningley. Founded in AD 71 by the Romans, you can immerse yourself in history with a visit to several of the town’s attractions.
Conisbrough Castle, dates back to around 1180, and has the oldest circular keep in England. Brodsworth Hall is one of the country’s most complete Victorian country houses, while Cusworth Hall is home to the Museum of South Yorkshire Life. This shows the changing home, work and social life of people and communities across the region over the last 250 years.
You’ll also find great countryside. Potteric Carr, a site of Special Scientific Interest, is a nature reserve covering around 500 acres. Over 150 species of bird and 28 types of butterfly can be seen here, and you can also explore five miles of footpaths.
Sherwood Forest is just a 45-minute drive from Finningley and the home of Robin Hood and every August the Robin Hood Festival celebrates his life and times. The 450-acre park also contains some of the oldest trees in Europe - Major Oak is 800 years old and still producing acorns. There are several trails to follow, making a day out here great for everyone.
For somewhere livelier, the city of Sheffield is just 45 minutes away. Attractions include Kelham Island Museum, the Millennium Gallery and Sheffield Botanical Gardens. You’ll also find a wide range of shops, both independent and high st, to explore alongside a variety of cafes, restaurants and bars.
There are several schools, both primary and secondary within easy reach of Finningley.
For those going on to higher education and want to study in the area, Sheffield and Nottingham Universities are both close by.
Finningley can be easily reached by road, rail and air.
Close to the M18, A1 and A614, it’s just six miles from Doncaster. Sheffield can be reached by road in 45 minutes and Nottingham in just over one hour.
