Located in South Derbyshire just a short drive from Burton-on-Trent, a new home in Drakelow is ideal if you’re looking for rural living within easy reach of nearby towns and cities.

A quick history

Drakelow dates back to the 11th century, when the village was mentioned in Domesday Book. The area was deserted in the Middle Ages, but later was repopulated. Drakelow Hall was the focus of the village, but it was demolished in 1934 and later became the site of Drakelow Power Station. The power station was also demolished in 2006, once the facility had reached its life expectancy.

Although Drakelow Power Station was demolished in 2006, a renewable energy centre has been approved on the site, owned by Future Earth Energy. Burton-upon-Trent has a brewing heritage, and is home to Coors Brewing and the Marston’s Brewery.

Other employers in the local area include Sandvik Mining and Construction and Brunel Healthcare Manufacturing in Swadlincote, JCB in Uttoxeter, Next in Leicester and Dairy Crest in Nuneaton. Nottingham is home to Boots, E.On and Capital One.
