Located just a short distance from Hull, Beverley is a great place to live if you’re looking for rural Yorkshire living within commuting distance of the town’s larger neighbours.
A quick history
The town of Beverley dates back to around 700 AD, during Anglo Saxon times. By the Norman era Beverley was a growing trading town, and was even a place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages thanks to the town’s founder, Saint John of Beverley. The town’s flourishing wool-making industry eventually helped Beverley become one of the biggest settlements in the country, and one of the most prosperous too. Today, Beverley is still important as the county town of the East Riding of Yorkshire although it has now been surpassed in size by local cities including York, Hull and Scunthorpe.
Business and industry
Historically, industry in Beverley has been rooted in wool-making but today the town is home to a wide range of employers across leisure, manufacturing, food production and more. Hull is just a short commute from Beverley, where major employers include Cranswick PLC, KCOM Group, Ideal Standard (UK), Fenner, William Jackson Food Group and Arco. Other major local businesses include Andrew Marr International, JR Rix and Sons, AAK (UK) and MKM Building Supplies.
