Cheddar Gorge, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, can be reached in around 35 minutes by car, providing a great option for a day out. You’ll be greeted by cliffs and gorges, where you can explore by foot, caving or rock climbing (the site is an international centre for the sports), all whilst enjoying the landscape.
If going deeper underground appeals, you can explore the caves of Cheddar Gorge, where our ancestors lived thousands of years ago. Gough’s cave provides you with stalagmites and stalactites, along with other highlights such as the ancient elders’ meeting chamber. Cox’s cave is another option, where lovely lighting, dancing fountains and music create a unique experience.
Glastonbury Tor is less than a ten minute drive away from Street; known as one of the most spiritual sites in the UK. Still a place of pagan ritual, the hill is topped with the roofless St Michael’s tower and is a lovely setting for a day out in the countryside.
The city of Bath can be reached by road in just under an hour. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, here you’ll find great architecture, along with a selection of shops, restaurants and historical attractions. Famous for its natural hot springs, you can visit its ancient Roman baths and explore one of its many museums.
There are a choice of schools within the local area, making it great for families. For those looking for higher education establishments, the University of Bath and Bristol are close by; both taking around an hour to reach.
Street has strong transport links.
The nearest large train station is Castle Cary, which is just over nine miles away. From here, a number of destinations can be reached quickly and efficiently such as Bath in 54 minutes, London in one hour and 42 minutes and Bristol in one hour and six minutes.
For those travelling further afield, the nearest airport is Bristol International, which is just over 19 miles away. From here, you’ll be able to get a selection of flights both domestic and international.
For motorists, the nearest main roads to Street include the M5, A39 and A303.
