New Homes in West Dunbartonshire

Welcome to West Dunbartonshire

Whether you’re exploring the countryside, visiting bustling towns or discovering historic sites, there’s plenty to see and do in the Scottish region of West Dunbartonshire. Located close to Glasgow and encompassing Dumbarton, Clydebank and Alexandria, a new home in West Dunbartonshire could just be the right choice for your and your family.

A quick history

The town of Dumbarton dates back to the Iron Age, and was once an important Roman settlement. Dumbarton Castle is one of the most prominent historic sites in the West Dunbartonshire region, and changed hands between the Scots and the English over years of battles, including the Wars of Independence. As a town, Dumbarton grew steadily over the centuries, and during the Second World War was heavily bombed due to its important shipyards.

Business and industry

Local employers include West Dunbartonshire Council, which was awarded the ‘Best Public Sector Employer in the UK’ in 2017, as part of the UK Top Employers for Working Families Awards. Many people living in West Dunbartonshire commute to Glasgow for work, where businesses include Morgan Stanley, Clydesdale Bank, the NHS Credit Union and Scottish Power.

Things to do in the area

West Dunbartonshire is a diverse region of Scotland, with everything from town centre shopping to wild countryside around Loch Lomond. If you love exploring the great outdoors, there are lots of great places to go walking and cycling in the local area, including Balloch Castle Country Park and Trossachs National Park, while indoor attractions include Loch Lomond Aquarium and Clydebank Museum.

For historic sites you can visit Dumbarton Castle, take a walk through the National Trust for Scotland’s Geilston Garden, or browse the exhibits at the Scottish Maritime Museum. Other places of interest within easy reach of West Dunbartonshire include Glasgow Science Centre, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, and the Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre.
