New Homes in Littleborough

Welcome to Littleborough

Whether you’re exploring the Peak District National Park, taking the kids to the farm or enjoying a day trip in the city, there’s plenty to see and do near the village of Littleborough. Located just a short commute from Manchester on the edge of Rochdale, a new home in Littleborough could tick all the right boxes if you’re looking for the best of both rural and urban living.

A quick history

There is evidence of neolithic settlements in the local area, but by the Middle Ages Littleborough was still only a small hamlet alongside two major transport routes of the time. The village began to grow as the cotton industry became more important in the region, along with the introduction of coal mining. Although the industries declined in the 20th century, Littleborough is now a popular commuter town in Greater Manchester.

Business and industry

Today, most residents of Littleborough commute to neighbouring towns and cities for work. In Manchester, employers include the city’s many universities, Manchester City Council, the Manchester Evening News and the BBC, along with many other smaller, rapidly growing businesses across sectors including media, insurance and finance.

Things to do in the area

If you’re moving to Littleborough with kids, there are lots of family-friendly attractions nearby including Hare Hill Park, Lancaster Park and Animal Farm, Animal Quackers Park Farm and Thompson Park and Miniature Railway. Eureka! Children’s Museum is only a short drive away in Halifax.

For sports fans, you can join Littleborough Cricket Club, practice your swing at Whittaker Golf Club, or watch top-flight football at Old Trafford and the Emirates Stadium. Manchester is also home to the Sale Sharks rugby team and Lancashire County Cricket Club.

If you want to take a trip into the city, you can explore the exhibits at the Museum of Science and Industry, go shopping in the Northern Quarter or the Arndale Shopping Centre, or browse the artwork at the Whitworth Gallery.

Travel and commuting

If you’re commuting for work or visiting family and friends, it’s easy to travel from your new home in Littleborough by road and rail. The train journey to central Manchester takes just 30 minutes, while the drive takes around 40 minutes depending on traffic. The drive to Halifax takes 35 minutes, while Rochdale is only a five minute train journey or 15 minute drive away.

When it’s time for a well-earned break, Manchester Airport is only a 40 minute drive from Littleborough, so your holiday will get off to an easy and stress-free start.
