Make the move

Situated in North West England, Manchester is and one of the largest cities in the UK.

Famous for its shopping, sports, history and culture, buying a new home in Manchester is a great choice.

Things to see and do

Manchester’s historical and cultural background can be discovered at several of its museums and galleries, including the Museum of Science and Industry. This attraction is a great family day out, where you can learn all about how Manchester’s industry has made it what it is today.

The Imperial War Museum North features a timeline of the conflicts Britain has experienced since the First World War, while the Manchester Art Gallery has a collection of temporary and permanent exhibitions.

Manchester has a great shopping scene, with the nearby Trafford Centre housing high street and designer brands within beautifully designed surroundings. The Arndale Centre is in the city centre, while a short walk to the nearby Northern Quarter provides unique boutique shopping.

Manchester has two premier league football teams, Manchester United and Manchester City. Whether a red or a blue, you can either enjoy visiting your club’s ground or explore the National Football Museum, with its collection of memorabilia.

If football isn’t for you, the Chill Factore is a great place to go with its indoor ski and snowboarding centre. Or maybe you could head to the nearby Peak District where you can enjoy the hills and lovely scenery.

The city has a great food and drink scene. Deansgate has various restaurants and bars, while the Northern Quarter caters for an alternative crowd. For a quieter evening outside of the city centre, Didsbury and Chorlton have a great selection of bars and restaurants.

Studying in Manchester

With the largest student population in the UK, Manchester has four universities: The University of Manchester, The Royal Northern College of Music Manchester Metropolitan and Salford University. TV personality and physicist Brian Cox still lectures at the University of Manchester, which has a strong focus on scientific research. There are also several primary and secondary schools in Manchester for families to choose from.

Transport links

Manchester has great transport links, and can access destinations across the UK.

For those travelling by car, the Manchester ring road connects the city and motorways to cities in all directions, including links to the M62 and M56.

Manchester Piccadilly and Oxford Road train stations have regular services to destinations across the country. Liverpool can be reached in 49 minutes, Birmingham in one hour and 26 minutes and London in just over two hours.

Manchester Airport is south of the city centre and is easily accessible by regular train and bus services.

A local tram service runs between the city centre and the outskirts of Manchester getting you around the city efficiently, as well as covering the greater Manchester area.
