New homes in St Ives

Welcome to St Ives

Whether you’re exploring the Cambridgeshire countryside, shopping at the local market or enjoying a relaxing round of golf, there’s lots to see and do close to the market town of St Ives. Located just a short commute from Huntingdon and Cambridge, a new home in St Ives could just be the right choice for your next house move.

A quick history

Originally known as Slepe in the Domesday Book, St Ives was eventually renamed after the body of Saint Ivo was found buried in the area. It quickly became an important market town, and by the 18th century St Ives was also a centre of trade thanks to its position on the River Great Ouse. Today St Ives is a popular commuter town with a thriving town centre.

Business and industry

If you’re moving to St Ives for work, there are plenty of local employers including the NHS at Papworth Hospital, Marshall of Cambridge, the University of Cambridge and Cambridgeshire County and City Councils. Other big businesses in the county include Napp Pharmaceuticals, Hilton Food Group and Arm Holdings.

Things to do in the area

St Ives is a historic town, home to The Norris Museum, St Ives Bridge and All Saints Church. There are regular markets in the town centre, along with an annual Michaelmas Fair, while the St Ives Mystery Treasure Trail is a great way to explore the local area.

If you enjoy a relaxing weekend round of golf, you can practice your swing at St Ives Golf Club, while other sporting attractions include One Leisure and Lakeside Lodge Golf and Bowling. When you want to explore the great outdoors, you can take a walk through Holt Island Nature Reserve or RSPB Fen Drayton nearby.

Other places of interest nearby include the Raptor Foundation, Houghton Mill, Cromwell Museum and Shepreth Wildlife Park.

Travel and commuting

St Ives is well-connected by road. Huntingdon is a 10 minute drive away, while the journey to Cambridge takes under 30 minutes. From the town you can get to Peterborough in 35 minutes, Bury St Edmunds in 50 minutes, and Northampton in one hour. There is also a guided busway, connecting the town to Cambridge Science Park.

If you’re commuting to London, you can get to the capital in one hour 40 minutes by car or just one hour by train from Huntingdon station. When it’s time for a well-earned holiday, Cambridge Airport is less than 30 minutes away, while London Stansted can be reached in 50 minutes.
