Welcome to Hucknall

Whether you’re discovering historic sites, enjoying some retail therapy or simply taking the kids to the park, there’s plenty to see and do close to your new home in Hucknall. Located in Nottinghamshire within commuting distance of Mansfield and Nottingham, the market town of Hucknall could just tick all the right boxes for you and your family.

A quick history

Hucknall dates back to Anglo-Saxon times, and by the 19th century was a coal mining town connected to a freight railway line and later the Great Northern Railway. During the Second World War Hucknall was an important RAF base, and by the 1950s the town was the test site of a Rolls Royce jet rig. It was a colliery town until the 1980s, when - like in many areas of the UK - the mines were closed.

There are a number of big employers close to Hucknall, including Boots UK, Experian, Capital One, Paul Smith Group and Pendragon in Nottingham, and Sports Direct in Mansfield. Nottingham is also home to the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and the Queen’s Medical Centre teaching hospital.

Hucknall is home to a number of shops and cafes, along with a historic church and regular traditional markets. Newstead Abbey is nearby, while other historic sites within easy reach of the town include Papplewick Pumping Station, Nottingham Castle and the City of Caves.

If you’re moving to the area with a young family, the little ones will love meeting the animals at Floralands Farm Park, riding their bike at Bestwood Country Park and learning at Green's Windmill and Science Centre.

Other places of interest nearby include Nottingham City Golf Club, Nottingham Climbing Centre and Wollaton Hall, Gardens and Deer Park.
