Your new favourite furniture trends in 2019

As the weather gets colder, we tend to retreat inside and spend more time on the sofa. The aim of any winter home décor should be to make your home feel like a cosy sanctuary.

Winter interior design trends

This season is all about getting back to nature. Think forest themes, with furniture cloaked in rich greens and blues, dark wooden tables and your favourite woodland animals illustrated on cushions. Add a tartan throw to snuggle up under, and your home will feel like a relaxing hideaway, even once the Christmas decorations have returned to the attic.

Vibrant velvet

Velvet was big news in 2018. It strutted down the catwalks at New York Fashion Week and now it’s making its way into living rooms, dining rooms and even bedrooms. We’re talking sumptuous sofas, luxurious lampshades and extravagant bed frames. While deep colours, such as rich greens and blues will be popular, 2019 is also the year to experiment with striking purples, teals and reds.

Geometric shapes

The living room is the hub of your home, where your guests will sit, relax and enjoy your company – so your lounge furniture is the most important to get right.

As we move into this century’s version of the 20s, we’re likely to see a continuation of the Art Deco style, with the striking geometric shapes of the era – circles and shells – re-imagined in sofa-backs, bucket seats and wall mirrors.

50 shades of pink

Ever since Pantone revealed 2017’s hottest colour – Millennial Pink – it’s been spotted absolutely everywhere. One London restaurant even created an entire gallery room in this hue.

While this Instagram-friendly shade works wonders in the catalogues, you may want to consider a more subdued hue for your living room. The 2019 colour of the year from Dulux, Spiced Honey, is described as a ‘warm, amber tone’ and it partners elegantly with greys, metals and woods. This closer-to-neutral shade will still enable you to embrace the geometric shapes of the Art Deco era, while mixing in on-trend materials, such as natural stone and concrete.

Mixed metals

Whether it’s a striking coffee table, the legs of an elegant dining chair or the gold trim of a mirror, metals will continue to shine in 2019. However, this year, it’s less about rose gold and copper and more about effectively mixing your metals.
