A quick history

Stamford Bridge was the site of a Roman fort, which eventually became a larger town along the River Derwent. The Battle of Stamford Bridge took place in 1066 and marked the end of Viking rule. The Normans eventually took over the village, and by the late 20th and early 21st century, the population had grown to more than 3,000 residents.

Business and industry

Stamford Bridge is just a short commute away from York, where employers include Nestle UK, the City of York Council and the York Health Services Trust. If you’re travelling slightly further afield for work, Plaxton and McCain are located in Scarborough, while Leeds is home to Jet2.com, Yorkshire Bank and Marks and Spencer.
