A quick history

Radstock dates back to the Iron Age, and the settlement grew during the Roman times with the Fosse Way Roman road passing nearby. Coal was discovered in the local area in the mid 1700s, and the Somerset Coal Canal was later connected to the town. Radstock quickly became an important place for the transportation of coal via the Wiltshire, Somerset and Weymouth Railway, but the coal mines and railway closed in the 1960s and 70s. Today, Radstock is a popular commuter town.
