A quick history

Waterlooville was named after the local inn, the Heroes of Waterloo, and was first recognised as a town in 1815. A church was built a couple of decades later, and a few small shops helped the village to grow. Waterlooville was eventually connected to Portsmouth by a horse-drawn bus, and by the 1930s the area had its own district council.

During the Second World War, people from nearby cities came to Waterlooville to escape the regular bombings of cities, and during the 1950s Waterlooville was one of the fastest growing towns in Britain.
