Things to see and do

Hawkwell offers a selection of facilities for everyday basics, while more choice is offered at the surrounding towns of Rochford, Hockley and Rayleigh.

There are several attractions in the area, and Hadleigh Castle is a good place to start. The building was started in 1215 and its ruins now overlook the Essex marshes, making for a great day out.

Hadleigh Country Park is another highlight of the area. A designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and spanning 387 acres, it has great walking trails and views. As the home of mountain biking in the London 2012 Olympics, it has a wide selection of bike trails.

Southend-on-sea is also on your doorstep,  just a 10 minute drive away. Great for days out, it’s a traditional seaside town.

You can enjoy its award-winning beaches alongside its famous pier, while children will enjoy the Adventure Island, rides and rollercoasters. Pier Museum and Sea Life Adventure centre are other highlights, while shoppers will enjoy the selection of independent and high street stores.
