Things to see and do
Delve into the town’s history by taking a trip to the Bolton Steam Museum. Run by volunteers who rescued 25 old steam engines which once powered the cotton mills of Yorkshire and Lancashire, it has the UK’s biggest collection of working steam mill. The Bolton Museum and Art Gallery is a further attraction where you can see everything from Egyptian mummies to local history and wildlife. A great family day out, you can enjoy displays of Egyptology, Zoology, Archaeology and Botany. Bolton Aquarium is another great day out for those with children. Here you can meet exotic fish with fantastic colours and scary creatures of the deep, such as piranhas from South America.
Echoes of Bolton’s history can also be discovered at a number of historic houses and halls in and around the town. Manchester is just 12 miles from Bolton and is a great city offering plenty to do.
