Living in Newbury

There’s a lot to look forward to if you’re thinking of buying a new home in Newbury, whether you’re attracted to the relaxed town centre, surrounding countryside or strong transport links. You can read more about what makes Newbury tick below, while you can head over to our latest offers page to discover more about schemes such as our Deposit Boost or Deposit Unlock schemes.

Things to see and do in Newbury

This is a great part of the country to live in if you enjoy spending as much time as possible outdoors. With miles of picturesque Berkshire countryside right on your doorstep, you’ll also enjoy brilliant access to the Chase and the North Wessex Downs, both incredible spots for long walks, runs and bike rides.
Back in the heart of town you can visit the West Berkshire Museum, while Sandleford Priory and Highclere Castle are well worth a visit too. The same goes for the Nature Discovery Centre and Pilot Hill with its expansive views, while your little ones will love a day out at the 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park and Family Farm.

Education

Sometimes your kids need to bury themselves in their textbooks, which they can do at schools rated as good by Ofsted such as Falkland Primary in the south west of town. St Joseph’s Catholic Primary and St Nicolas CofE Junior School are both close to centre, while the Winchcombe School is to the north.

There are a number of good choices at secondary level too, including the northern Trinity School and St Bartholomew’s School and Park House School, which are both to the south west. St Gabriel’s School, meanwhile, is a highly regarded all-through independent with a nursery, and right next to Sandleford Priory.

Transport links in Newbury

Newbury is famous for its racecourse, and there’s a train station next to it as well as one in the heart of town. You can use either of these to get to places like Reading in under 30 minutes, while it’s only around 40 minutes to get to London. If you have a car, the M4 motorway conveniently runs just to the north of town, while the A34 and A339 are handy too.

The Newbury property market

As well as being an excellent place to live and work in its own right, Newbury’s superb transport links to London mean it’s a popular spot for commuters to the capital too. In turn, this means property prices are substantially higher than the UK average, although reasonably-priced flats are usually in the best supply in the area.

You can also find affordable 2 bedroom houses at our Cherry Blossom Meadow development between Western Avenue and Shaw Road, as well as 2, 3 and 4 bedroom new homes on Fetlock Drive which overlook the racecourse. Whatever your requirements, call us to discuss your move today, and don’t forget to ask us about offers such as our stress-free Part Exchange scheme when you do.
